Another (First Impressions)

Here’s “another” first impressions post from me to you. …Oh God, that was lame. Sorry.

Another (Yes, that is the actual title.) is a mystery-horror anime adapted from the 2009 novel of the same name. 26 years ago, a girl named Misaki was the most popular girl at Yomiyama North Middle School, but once she entered the 9th grade, she died. So the entire school pretended that she’s still alive up until graduation day. In the spring of 1998, a 15-year old boy named Kouichi Sakakibara transfers to that same school, only to notice that the atmosphere in his new classroom is very odd. He is then drawn to a mysterious girl with an eyepatch over her left eye named Mei Misaki. However, no one in the classroom but Kouichi seems to acknowledge her at all…

Recently I’ve became slightly iffy upon learning that the director of Another is the same one from the Summer 2011 trainwreck Blood-C. But I wasn’t gonna be turned off of this show because of that. That aside, this looks to be a really strange show. Right now I’m trying to figure out what connection does this Misaki has with the Misaki from 26 years ago outside of same names, and why none of the class notices her. Obviously, it’s not gonna explain everything in the first episode. After all, we still have 11 more episodes. 😛 I can tell that this is going to be one of the more intriguing shows of the season.

And of course Sakakibara is not going to leave Misaki alone although she asked him to. I’m interested in this show. Didn’t watch Blood-C, so I have no preconceived notions. I am just hoping it doesn’t go the way of many anime these days and start interesting but lose focus.
