Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse (First Impressions)

Yep, skintight fanservice-y pilotsuits. A must-have in every mecha anime.

I think I might’ve suckered myself into watching this show since it has mecha. I love mecha anime. I hope this show this good. I don’t want to deal with anything underwhelming this summer…

Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse is an anime produced by ixtl and Satelight, which is an adaption of Kouki Yoshimune’s light novel spinoff of the visual novel Muv-Luv Alternative which is developed by âge. In the year 1967, humans waged war against alien lifeforms known as BETA, which stands for “Being of Extra Terrestrial origin which is an Adversary of the human race” (Kinda overdoing the acronyms there, aren’t ya?) on the moon. However, they failed and the BETA began their attack on Earth, which drives humanity to the brink of destruction. In the passing years, humanity constructed machines called Tactical Surface Fighters to fight the BETA, and prepare young teenagers to pilot these TSFs. Yui Takamura is one of these teenagers.

Well, I’d say the first episode is basically set up to explain the threat. Humanity’s on the losing end of the battle and nothing seems to be going in their favor.  Granted, the plot hasn’t started yet, but aside from all the school stuff, I do like what I see. Here’s hoping this will be worth watching.
