Psycho-Pass (First Impressions)

No way am I boarding the hype train this time! The last two times I did that, the train derailed and turned into a burning wreck. Until only a month and a half ago, the info about this show has only been trickling in. Like we’ve only recently learned that Gen Urobuchi of Puella Magi Madoka Magica and Fate/Zero fame would be writing the story. Oh, dear… So there is reason to get excited. I admit, I was intrigued myself. So here we are, the anime nobody knew nothing about until now.

Psycho-Pass is a Production I.G original airing on the noitaminA block alongside Robotics;Notes (Also done by Production I.G. I’l be doing this tommorow.). The story is set in the future where the Japan’s society is governed by the Sibyl System, which determines who is a latent criminal. A high-tech gun issued to the Ministry of Welfare Public Safety Bureau called a Dominator acts as the Sibyl System’s eyes as they scan an individual’s mental state, or Psycho-Pass, to determine their Crime Coefficient. Depending on how high their Crime Coeffieient value is, that criminal must either be apprehended or worse case scenario, be executed. Rookie Inspector Akane Tsunemori is assigned to the MWPSB Criminal Investigation Department’s Division 1 alongside Inspector Nobuchika Ginoza as they supervise Enforcers Shinya Kogami, Tomomi Masaoka, Shusei Kagari, and Yayoi Kunizuka.

Almost sounds a bit like Judge Dredd, don’t you think? Considering who’s writing the story, one can’t help but realize the potential this show packs. I definitely can see it and I’m gonna keep watching, although I won’t get my expectations too high. Only time will tell if this will become the next Guilty Crown
