Not sure if this was either coincidental or intentional on Media Factory’s part, but it seems rather perfect timing that this episode is focused around Kobato’s birthday and the birthday of Kana Hanazawa (Kobato’s seiyuu) was around this episode’s initial airing.
So Kodaka gathers the Neighbors Club members so he can help them pick out presents for Kobato’s birthday. On the way to Nagaya (probably the in-series counterpart to Nagoya), Kodaka wonders why Rika never bothers changing her clothes the same way she does her hair as she is wearing her usual school uniform and labcoat, which brings everyone to talk about their sense of fashion.
Turns out Yozora’s sense of clothing is trying to pull off a boyish look, but it ends up actually bringing out her cute factors, what with it consisting of a midriff-baring shirt and thigh-highs. I’m okay with this, however.
So while Yukimura keep Yozora and Rika busy while they’re off shopping on their own so as they don’t lose it while being around people, Kodaka and Sena look for something to buy. Kodaka suggests that she get her meat (the food, not Sena). And also we learn that Kodaka is SRS BSNS when it comes to a certain brand of frying pans. When they meet back up, it turns out being around people for a prolonged amount of time tured Yozora out and they all head home.
Well, time to get the party rolling for our birthday girl. Happy birthday to you; Happy birthday you; Happy birthday, dear Ko–
…okay… How could they botch that part up?! Um… Happy birthday to you!
Later that day, Kodaka and Kobato return home to find Kate and Maria waiting at their house so Maria can give their present to Kobato. They decide to stay the night and the usual “guy accidentally walks in on girl naked in the shower” happens, but of course this show would never stoop that low so as to have Kate go into Pervert Revenge Mode. Instead, Kodaka is smart enough to close the door. Even better, Kate totally understands that he didn’t try to peek on purpose and forgives him. I think I’m gonna cry…
So as Kate and Maria head back home, Kate mentions something about Kodaka and Sena. Not exactly sure what, but we might find out in the coming episodes…
