Evangelion 1.11 airing on Toonami, One Piece and new designs coming soon

Toonami announced some new great things at their panel in Momocon today and here’s the roundup. I’ve updated the post with the full panel.

Next week is Toonami’s Sweet 16, and you’re invited to the party. Next week, Soul Eater, Thundercats (2011), Sym-Bionic Titan, Eureka Seven, and Tenchi Muyo! GXP takes a break for a week in favor of Toonami’s first new movie since it’s revival, Evangelion 1.11: You Are (Not) Alone.
12:00 – Bleach
12:30 – Naruto
1:00 – Evangelion 1.11: You Are (Not) Alone
3:30 – Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
4:00 – Cowboy Bebop
5:00 – InuYasha

In other news, the panel debuted the designs for TOM 5 and the Absolution Mark 3.0, which would debut in April. Images and a rotation video of TOM 5 were posted on the Toonami Tumblr, and there will be a online comic that explains the transition.

Also, they have approval to re-air One Piece in the future, but it may not be replacing Tenchi Muyo! GXP or Thundercats (2011).

Other tidbits from Q & A…

  • Young Justice, which was just recently cancelled by Cartoon Network, is very unlikely to air on Toonami.
  • Turns out there’s less Western Animation than ever, most of them on other networks like Nickelodeon and Disney XD. They want Toonami to not just be anime and they’re still looking into it.
  • Samurai Champloo is a possibility.
  • Concerning Sym-Bionic Titan Season 2: “If enough people demand it, they will come back.”
  • April Fool’s Toonami was a one-time only deal, so they could get one-episode deals easily. Since Toonami is on once a week, they can’t do the same again.
  • Shows airing on Cartoon Network or Boomerang, like Samurai Jack, won’t be on Toonami unless they’re not airing.
  • Since April Fool’s falls on Monday this year, don’t expect anything from Toonami.
  • They’re also looking at Sailor Moon (2013) and it’s also a possibility.
