DeSu 2 #5: Kuriki, Kuriki, Boom!

Ronaldo KurikiSo, umm… I guess we’re going the Law route, huh. even though that’s not the path I’d prefer. Then again, the true end’s outta the question.

The episode begins with JP’s operatives on a mission to take back the Nagoya branch from the insurgents led by Ronaldo. Hoping that they’ll lead them to Hibiki, Daichi and Io has snuck along with Makoto’s help…

…by using the ever-so-awesome Solid Snake method, and they get a death clip that depicts Hibiki meeting his end during a demon attack. While JP’s work on getting their spiritual barriers restored, they also work on trying to locate Hibiki and Ronaldo. It seems Yamato only recognizes those with capable abilities, which is why he enlisted Makoto two years prior.

As you might've figured, these two guys here are my favorite characters from Devil Survivor 2. Jungo's a bro who's also an awesome physical sweeper. Airi's just like your typical absuive tsundere, but she's actually more tolerable than others.

Meanwhile, in Nagoya, two demon summoners named Jungo Torii and Airi Ban prepare to begin to help take back the Nagoya branch from the insurgents, despite their own suspicions about JP’s. As Daichi and Io see that Nagoya’s condition isn’t any better than Tokyo’s or Osaka’s, they see a group of civilians with rations stolen from JP’s falling under attack from a horde of Jaki Legion.

Holy crap. Is it just me, or do Legion look more creepier in anime form?

Daichi jumps into action with Obariyon and Agathion and…

they get owned… again.

Yes, Daichi. Your demons are as weak as the one who owns them. (By the way, this was recycled from Episode 3, so it makes sense to use that same screencap.)

That pretty much leaves Io to deal with them with Kikuri-Hime. As more Legions show up, they are immediately set ablaze by Hibiki (now in full bunny-hood mode) and his new demon, Avian Suzaku (also known as Feng Huang). It turns out that Hibiki is now working with the insurgents, as he goes back to their base, while Daichi and Io follows him…

Along with the Nagoys branch, the insurgents have also taken hostage JP’s nurse Otome Yanagiya. Also amongst the resistance (rather earlier than expected) is Yuzuru Akie (also known as Joe), who joined after his girlfriend died during the demon atatck. They’ve rebelled against JP’s because Yamato seeks to create a meritocracy once the Septentriones are destroyed. Ronaldo, however, only wants to create a world of equality. Also, it turns out that Ronaldo is a detective after all, but he posed as a JP’s member to learn about the Hotsuin family history.

According to it, another Septentrion is set to appear on this day in Nagoya and they intend to attack it before it can hurt anyone. Anyway, we see in a flashback 12 years earlier that even at the age of 5, Yamato is still a prick. However he was very skilled, as shown when he was able to summon Beast Cerberus with ease. And we also learn more about Alcor and Yamato’s acquaintance. It turns out that before Hibiki came along, Yamato was chosen by Alcor as his “Sparkling One” (Yeah, that name does sound stupid).

The episode closes with Yamato receiving Hibiki’s death clip.

As you might’ve figured, Joe was the character I’ve been referring to some weeks ago. Had the animation followed the games more closely, he would’ve appeared in the first episode before Dubhe attacked. Also, this episode was lacking of Jungo and Airi sadly. Hopefully we’ll see them more next episode, and I swear if Jungo does, I don’t know what I’ll do…
