No Game, No Life // First Impressions

So more trapped in a video game world anime? Well Log Horizon put it in a good light, so maybe this would be decent. I hope so…

No Game, No Life is a Madhouse adaptation of Yuu Kamiya’s light novel. Among MMORPG gamers, there exists a 1337 gamer known only as “[ ]” (read “blank”) In real life, [ ] is actually a stepbrother/stepsister duo of NEET hikikomori gamers named Sora and Shiro, who are so obsessed with online games that they consider real life as just a crappy game. One day, they are summoned to a world where everything is decided by games by a boy named God to become the saviors of humanity.

I don’t know about anyone else, but the first episode left a very sour impression on me. It reminded me way too much of that “video games are so much better than real life” crap Accel World and Sword Art Online tried to dump in my face. And the two main characters tend to switch between “pretty chill dudes” to “two Kiritos,” and that is two Kiritos too many. I’m not gonna give up on this yet, but as far as I’m concerned, Madhouse, is failing with light novel adaptations this year. Seriously, stop messing around and get back to making good stuff.
