Blood Blockade Battlefront // First Impressions

OK, this season is nothing but misses all around to me. But I think I might’ve found what could be the saving grace of the season, which seems to be a title that’s been anticipated for awhile.

Blood Blockade Battlefront, a Bones adaptation of Yasuhiro Nightow’s manga, is set in Hellsalem’s Lot, the city where New York City used to be before the barrier that separated Earth and the underworld fell apart three years ago. As a result, it’s inhabitants, consisting of normal everyday humans andcreatures from another dimension live peacefully under a protective barrier. The storyu follows Leonardo Watch, a normal reporter who finds himself recruited by the secret society Libra, whose job is to defend Hellsalem’s Lot from criminals the the normal police is unable to handle.

If I were to describe Blood Blockade Battlefront in one sentence, it would be what happened if Bacanno! was set in the Marvel Universe. It has all the coolness and style that I usually come to expect from its genre. Already in the first episode, it has outdone every other show on my watchlist. So if you’ve been let down by this season, like I have, and looking for something that has some oomph to it, Blood Blockade Battlefront is shaping up to be somethat worth watching this season. As long as it doesn’t crash and burn midway through, I think we’ll be fine.
