Seasonal Anime Reviews: Spring 2013

Spring 2013 Season Overall Thoughts: Although it’s better than last season, this season did test what low tolerance I have for certain shows. I pretty much declared one show complete trash after the first episode alone, which I never do. My really bad side has been dormant since the end of last year, and now it’s back… with a vengeance.

Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai. // First Impressions

Guys, I’ve been thinking. Since I’ve seen Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai (That’s a mouthful) back in 2011, I’ve praised it for its accurate description of the hardcore otaku life. But then some months later, I’ve come to realize it’s honestly not that good. My previous statement still stands, but the series suffers from one major flaw: the main character, Kirino Kousaka. Her older brother, Kyousuke, does all this stuff for her, going to midnight releases of new games, convincing their dad to let her keep her anime collection, etc., and how does she repay her? By being a completely unlikable, ungrateful bitch. Yeah, I said it. Kirino’s a bitch. Problem? And what really egregious is that in one of the episodes, she writes a novel in less than a day which she admits was badly written. It gets both a publication and an anime adaptation. Huuuuh?! She’s only 14! Who would allow something like this to get published?! …Wait, don’t answer that question. OK, rant aside: If I recall correctly, I scored it 7.5. Well, 6 seems more fitting enough, dont’cha think? Now moving on to the second season… *grumble*

Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai. (Note the period in the title; that means second season) is A-1 Pictures’ continuation of the AIC Build-produced Fall 2010 adaptation of Tsukasa Fushimi and Hiro Kanzaki’s light novel. A year since last season, Kirino has returned from studying abroad in America rather suddenly and she hasn’t changed one bit, still acting annoying towards Kyousuke after all he did for her. Also, I must’ve missed something because there’s some sexual tension between Kyousuke and Kuroneko. Also, apparently, she and Saori Bajeena is trying to get her back to her old self. Why, since there’s no actual change between old Kirino and new Kirino, I have no idea.

Well, that’s the rather uninteresting start of OreImo.… I expect it to be mediocre at best, and already it’s living up to those expectations. At least there will be Kuroneko to keep it from being totally awful… Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to find the cause of this sickening feeling I have in my stomach at this moment.
