Pokémon Best Wishes! Season 2 Premiere: We all scream for Beartic Ice Cream

Hooray, Summer! Yeeeeeah, no. To me, I always expect summer anime seasons to be lousy, and this year is looking to be no exception. Only a few anime this season seem to interest me, others seem like something I shouldn’t watch; so excuse me if I have a lack of motivation for the next few months.

Without further ado, let’s get the Summer 2012 season started with Pokémon Best Wishes! Season 2.

So we have a new opening, called “Be an Arrow” by Momoiro Clover Z. It also shows that Krokorok will soon be evolving into a Krookodile. Alright, so the episode starts with Ash and his friends running into Cynthia, the Sinnoh region Champion, who is in the middle of a life-changing decision: Which Beartic Ice Cream flavor would she like? Yeah, ice cream is serious business for Cynthia. She tells them that she’s on her way to Lacunosa Town in East Unova to participate in the Pokémon World Tournament – Junior Cup. The winner of that tournament will win the opportunity to battle the Unova region Champion, Alder. Ash and others see this as the perfect opprtunity to kill some time until the Unova Pokémon League starts.

Meanwhile, we cut to Team Rocket hunting for Meloetta. Jessie and James send out Woobat and Yamask to draw it out while Meowth fires an electric net at it. Although Meloetta avoids capture, it still gets severly injured, crossing paths with Cynthia and Ash and his group. While Iris and Cilan go out to get Oran Berries for Meloetta, Ash and Cynthia goes to make some ice. She’s revealed to have a Glaceon.

Cynthia gets a call from someone and her immediate attention is required, leaving Ash to tend to Meloetta for the time being. Oshawott pops out of his Poké Ball and falls for Meloetta on first sight. Even though they’re not even in the same Egg group. 😛 Meanwhile, Iris uses her Emolga to grab an Oran Berry and deliver it to Meloetta. But she bumps into Oshawott and they both get knocked out. Meloetta gets better and sneaks away from their noses to sing a rather soothing melody.

After Cynthia regroups with Ash and the others, Iris asks her for a battle. Iris uses Axew against Cynthia and Garchomp. The battle starts with Axew using Scratch on Garchomp to no avail. He then uses Dragon Rage, which hits but also barely fazes Garchomp. Obviously not, since Dragon Rage only does 40 damage and doesn’t take into account type match-ups. 😛 Garchomp counterattacks with Dragon Rush and Draco Meteor. Despite that, Axew still pulls himself together, enough to attack Garchomp with Giga Impact (Yeah, I was gonna call BS too, but it’s actually fair game since Axew is one of the few unevolved Pokémon that can learn Giga Impact.) Garchomp uses Dragon Claw, but Cynthia calls it off before it connects, ending the battle.

So while Team Rocket continue their search for Meloetta, they spot Ash and his group boarding a plane that will take them to Undella Town and see Meloetta sneak on board. Meanwhile at Cynthia’s villa…

I see that Piplup still hasn’t evolved…

Well, that’s the start of Season 2. Next episode has Dawn meeting up with Ash and his friends, and she and Piplup battling Cilan and Pansage. I probably might blog this episode.
