JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 4: Diamond is Unbreakable // First Impressions

Screenshot - 4_1_2016 , 6_41_33 PMHere’s another reason why this Spring is looking great: Jojo Fridays are finally back after almost nine months. Man, I’ve missed this. Has a season ever sucked whenever Jojo Fridays was starting? (Spring 2014) OK, can’t argue with you about that one…

The fourth story of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, titled Diamond is Unbreakable, is set 10 years after Stardust Crusaders. Jotaro arrives in the town of Morioh to track down Josuke Higashikata, Joseph’s illegitimate son. Being of Joestar descent, Josuke also has a Stand of his own, called Shining Diamond {Crazy Diamond}. Shining Diamond’s power rivals that of Star Platinum, aside from restoring almost any damage it causes. As it turns out, Jotaro is also tracking down a depraved serial killer hiding somewhere in Morioh…

Diamond is Unbreakable has this really weird aesthetic that, for someone used to the artstyles of the previous three, is kinda oft-putting. I mean, Jotaro doesn’t even looks 28. Heck, he looks like he aged a few years backwards. Aside from that, Diamond is Unbreakable is still the good ol’ Jojo that I’ve enjoyed, right down to Araki’s penchant for animal abuse. This time, a turtle gets it. Don’t worry, it gets better. Anyhoo, Diamond is Unbreakable is looking to be one of the more entertaining shows out of a season that I have the highest hopes for. Unforunately we gotta wait another week to see what the new Ending Theme will be.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders – Battle in Egypt // First Impressions

Screenshot - 1_11_2015 , 6_10_26 PMI just realized that I never did a proper intro to JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders so let’s fix that.

In the year 1989, 17-year old delinquent Jotaro Kujo put himself in prison because he was possessed by an evil spirit. His grandfather, Joesph Joestar, and his assistant, Mohammad Avdol, informs him that said “evil spirit” is actually a Stand, a manifestation of one’s fighting potential. Jotaro’s Stand is referred to as Star Platinum. The cause of Stands awakening within the Joestar bloodline is revealed to be Dio Brando’s reawakening. As a result of her Stand awakening and being unable to control it, Jotaro’s mother, Holly, has fallen terminally ill. In order to save her, Jotaro, Joesph (Stand: Hermit Purple), and Avdol (Stand: Magician’s Red) joins with Noriaki Kakyoin (Stand: Hierophant Green) and Jean-Pierre Polnareff (Stand: Silver Chariot) to travel to Egypt to put an end to DIO. Along the way, they face off against evil Stand users that serve DIO that threaten to get in their way.

In Battle in Egypt, the second half of David Production’s adaption of Part 3 of Hirohiko Araki’s manga, after many arduous battles, Jotaro and friends have arrived in Cairo, Egypt. However, they learn that Holly’s condition has gotten worse and with only two weeks at the most before she dies, they enlist help in a dog named Iggy (Stand: The Fool) to find and defeat DIO and his nine remaining minions.

A dog? Seriously? Knowing this show’s track record of brutally slaughtering dogs, if Iggy actually survives this to the end, I’ll be legit surprised.

Holy crap, I missed this show. I know last Fall was a great season, but it just didn’t have Jojo, and that’s matters alot. Now that Jojo is back, Fridays are worth looking forward to, with more badass characters, fabulous poses and another yet another 80’s American song as the ending theme… wait, Last Train Home? Odd choice, if you ask me.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure // First Impressions

Screenshot - 4_4_2014 , 1_09_08 PMSo as an anime fan, it seems to be an obligation to watch JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, so I gotta start somewhere. So what I’m gonna do is start with the 2012 version and work my way up to the current series.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is a David Production adaptation of Hirohiko Araki’s manga. The story is set in late 19th Century England. Wealthy young aristrocrat Jonathan “JoJo” Joestar meets Dio Brando, an orphaned male whom the Joestars took in. However, Dio’s arrival meant making JoJo’s life Hell. Sure, Dio might seem quick to adapt to living like an aristrocrat more than JoJo is, but he does some real dickish stuff like kicking JoJo’s dog, fighting dirty in boxing, spreading nasty rumors about JoJo, stealing JoJo’s first kiss, and burning JoJo’s dog alive; all so he can usurp the Joestar fortune. Meanwhile, an Aztec stone mask will change their fates for generations.

So, yeah. first thing going through my mind right now? Dio is a dick. Quickly has risen to one of anime’s biggest dicks in my book in one episode alone. That’s a new record. Aside from that, it was a good first episode. I hear it’ll only get better from here, so I implore you to bear with this noob here.

So now that I’ve started watching JoJo, am I now part of the cool kids?
