JAST USA releasing Steins;Gate Visual Novel

The Choice of Steins Gate

As you know, ever since I saw Steins;Gate back in 2011, it’s been one of my top favorite anime. So you’d expect I’d be super excited when I heard that JAST USA announced at their Anime Expo panel that they’ll be releasing the PC visual novel by 5pb and Nitroplus. No additional release info given yet, but you can expect I plan on buying it as soon as possible.

New Pokémon Revealed: Mewtwo New Forme?

What has science done?

Pokémon X and Y has revealed a new Pokémon (name currently unknown). Some sources are saying that it is a new forme of Mewtwo. Others are saying that it’s a separate Pokémon that is related to Mewtwo. I’m leaning towards the latter.

Pandora’s Tower is coming Stateside this Spring

Just recently, XSEED Games has annnounced that they will be publishing Pandora’s Tower for the Nintendo Wii and will be releasing it in North America this Spring. They teased it yesterday with this image.

With that, that completes Operation Rainfall‘s campaign to bring three Wii-exclusive JRPGs to the West. Nintendo and XSEED had respectively brought Xenoblade Chronicles and The Last Story last year.

I was just gonna stop crossing my fingers for this to get localized since the Wii is old news now that Wii U is out. Plus, Pandora’s Tower was the least favorite of the three games. But XSEED exceeded 😛 my expectations again. Hopefully, this’ll be another success for them.

So what’s next for Operation Rainfall? Get Square-Enix to bring Bravely Default: Flying Fairy, Capcom to localize Ace Attorney Investigations 2, and anyone involved with Project X Zone to bring that over?

In this morning’s Pokémon-centric Nintendo Direct, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata announced the 6th Generation of Pokémon games with Pokémon X and Y for the Nintendo 3DS.

During the video, the three starters and the two version mascot legendarys were also revealed.

Chespin, the Grass-type starter. Why does it look like it's laughing at someone?

Thoughts about Bayonetta 2 exclusively on Wii U

Using this image because I couldn’t find a better one…

So if you’ve heard the news yesterday about Nintendo announcing the date and prices of their upcoming Wii U, you should know that the biggest upset news was Nintendo publishing Bayonetta 2, the sequel to Platinum Games’ 2010 PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 game, and therefore being exclusive to Wii U. The news made many fans of the original very unhappy.

All I can say is…

You crybabies are all whining about it being on a “Fisher Price tablet” when you should all be glad that Bayonetta 2 has actually become reality.

It’s not like this kind of thing has happened before. Example: Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne, the third entry in the main series line (To my knowledge, the first two never made it to the States.) was on the PlayStation 2. Then came Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey for the Nintendo DS, and Shin Megami Tensei IV for the 3DS.

Now let’s look at it another way: Remember the news about Sega supposedly cancelling Bayonetta 2? It’s just a rumor so it may not have been true, but what if it was true? That means the hate and death threats should not be directed towards Nintendo nor Platinum Games, but Sega instead.

Personally I don’t really care, because I’m such a Platinum Games fanboy that I’m willing to throw them my money for whatever they give out; that includes their other Nintendo-published Wii U title The Wonderful 101 (formerly known as Project P-100). I don’t see anybody bitching about The Wonderful 101 being a Wii U-exclusive.

What, becuase Nintendo also targets the casual audience, they’re not allowed to have games that target the core audience?

Seriously, dudes. You sad excuses of “gamers” need to grow up. 😐

UPDATE (9/15/2012)

Play Bayonetta 2 the “Right Way”. What exactly is the right way?

Really now? Are you serious? Are they seriously going through with this? The butthurt rage and death threats is bad enough, but this goes beyond butthurt and straight into Insane Troll Logic!

They’re gonna be boycotting Bayonetta 2 on Wii U by buying the game and console used… How does that even work?! You’re still playing the game on a console you detested anyway! That is so hypocritical on so many levels! Not only that, but their plan hinders on that someone buys a console and a copy of the game brand new and then trade them both in. In other words, they can only profit from someone who has given Nintendo and Platinum Games their money.

I probably should flag them for being morons, but I won’t do that becuase I want to prove that I’m the better man than these crybabies by buying a Wii U and Bayonetta 2 brand new and not trading them in!

It’s shit like this that makes me question what it really means to be a mature gamer.

Look Back at Nintendo Power

NOW YOU’RE PLAYING WITH POWER!

Well, if you’ve been following latest gaming news, then you should know that magazine Nintendo Power is on its way out. Nintendo of America has confirmed that their Dewcember 2012 issue will be their final.

You all remember Nintendo Power, right? It was like the coolest magazine ever! For only 19.95 per year, you can get all the latest Nintendo news and goodies sent directly to your mailbox, and all those kickass pinups. It was the most awesome thing ever. Remember the ad with a frozen Super Nintendo? Nah, it really wasn’t frozen; It was actually just a plastic shell. But you gotta admit that was pretty cool (No pun intended).

My older brother and I used to read it back when he had a subscription up until the Nintendo 64 days. One thing I mostly remember was the comic book adapatation of Star Fox that was in there while that game was out. But we still had some awesome stuff, like the promo video for Star Fox 64 in all of its cheesy glory. We also got the one for Diddy Kong Racing.

As a matter of fact, I remember first hearing about Pokémon through Nintendo Power. Back when Pokémon Red and Blue for the Game Boy was first coming out, they had this 6-issue mini-magazine called Pokémon Power. In each issue, the first half was a section of the walkthrough of the game and the second half was a comic adaptation of an episode of the Pokémon anime.

I once got my own subscription in the summer of 2005. I started when they were doing a three-month free trial subscription promotion. I think it was because I registered games. After the trial period went up, I was able to buy the first full year subscription for $12, and I kept renewing each year until 201o where I just decided to quit screwing around and get a two-year subscription.

The last subscriber issue I recieved.

I was planning on renewing eventually before this summer went up but, well…, that seems futile now. Either way, I’m still gonna buy their last issue, either a subscriber copy on eBay if they have something special in there. If not, just a regular newsstand copy.

Here’s to you, Nintendo Power. Farewell, old friend.

Buying Digital or Retail?

So New Super Mario Bros. 2 was just released today and it is the first Nintendo 3DS game to be sold not only in-store, but as a digital downloadable title via the eShop.

There doesn’t appear to be any major incentive for buying one format over the other. Both formats are the same price. Some stores have a preorder bonus for buying the retail version, like GameStop gives out a Gold Mario pin for online preorders. There’s also a double coin bonus from Club Nintendo if for buying the digital version and doing the survey. I’ve eventually settled upon buying the digital, just to get the feel of owning a full size, and for the double coin bonus from Club Nintendo.

New Super Mario Bros. 2‘s size is 2950 blocks, which equals to about 370MBs, and that’ll take up at least a sixth of a 2GB SD card (Included with every 3DS. The 3DS XL, which was also released today, includes a 4GB card). Compared to Resident Evil: Revelations and Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D, (both of which are at least 3GBs), that’s nothing. As for me…

As you can see, I’ve downloaded a fair amount of stuff from the eShop since its initial launch and with the 2GB card, there just isn’t enough room for New Super Mario Bros. 2 without deleting anything. I had to buy a larger SD card, and now I feel like I can download every single 3DS Download Software on the eShop.

I did a “survey” with some of my 3DS friends via SwapNote, asking them if they were planning on buying retail or digital. Out of the 16 that replied: 12 said they were buying Retail, 3 for Digital, and one were planning to buy both formats (More power to him. 😛 ).

I don’t really know what factors that digital downloadable version of video games will have in the future, like whether or not physical retail games will get phased out eventually, but as far as I’m concerned it doesn’t seem that way to me. It seems to be up to one’s personal preference.

Why You Should Play The Last Story

The Last Story is now available. Unlike Xenoblade Chronicles, only available at GameStop (in-store/online) and Nintendo of America online store, you can purchase The Last Story anywhere wherever video games are sold. Developed by Mistwalker and published by Nintendo in all countries it was released in except for North America, where XSEED handles the localization, those who have played any game in the Final Fantasy series will recognize two well-known names behind this game: The creator Hironobu Sakaguchi and music composer Nobuo Uematsu.

The first release copies of the game come with a custom box and 44-page artbook, and those who preordered the game from GameStop, EB Games, or Amazon got this mini-sountrack CD. Very nice incentive for Day 1 purchasers, but rather lacking compared to what the UK got as a Limited Edition. I guess you can’t have what you want all the time, but I’m not complaining.

Sorry I couldn’t record myself playing the opening sequence of the game. I’ll just have to leave this trailer here.

For more information, check out The Last Story‘s website. Remember, buying these kinds of games will support more games like these that have yet to be released outside Japan.

My thoughts on The Dark Knight Rises

Well, I didn’t think that I would talk about Live-Action films that much, but I need to get this off my chest. The Dark Knight Rises is the third and final film to the trilogy directed by Christopher Nolan. What did I think about it?

Post-E3 2012 Impressions

If you’re a gamer like I am, the week where the Electronics Entertainment Expo (or E3 for short) happens down in Los Angeles is a very important week. We get a first look of all the new and upcoming games, and new video game-related memes (like the above) become born.

So how did my e3 experience go this year?
